Storytime Programs

Storytime programs are a great opportunity for your children:

  • to gain an introduction to the Library as a fun and friendly place
  • to meet and socialize with other children
  • to learn how to behave in a group
  • to learn to listen and concentrate on a story
  • to learn new words and enlarge their vocabulary
  • to find out about stories and subjects which interest them
  • to take home books on storytime topics to extend the experience
  • to gain skills to ready them for success in school
  • to get excited about books and reading
  • to have a really good time!

Baby Songs and Rhymes (for pre-walkers, infant - 15 months)

Six to Eight week sessions aim at language enrichment, bonding, fun and play. Each program features 30 minutes of songs, rhymes and books for parents and caregivers to share with babies - along with some time for questions, socializing and reading aloud with the babies. Participants will also receive a booklet of songs, rhymes and games to use at home. This program is held at both Queens Park Elementary School (at Strongstart) and in the Library. Please check the schedule for current program details.

Toddlertime (for walkers aged 16 months - 3 years)

New and improved! This program is for toddlers who need more action and participation than Baby Songs and Rhymes, but are not yet ready for Preschool Storytime. 30-minute programs feature an active mix of puppets, songs, rhymes, feltboard stories and, of course, books. There will be lots of movement for energetic toddlers! Six to eight week sessions are offered 4 times each year. A parent or caregiver must attend with each child - small children need help and encouragement to participate and enjoy sharing this special time with a caring adult. Please check the schedule for current program details.

Preschool Storytime (for 3-5 year olds)

Eight-week sessions are offered 4 times each year, beginning in September, January, April and July. As with Toddlertime, 30-minute programs feature puppets, songs, rhymes, fingerplays, feltboard stories, and books. However, there is a greater emphasis on books, on longer stories with more challenging content, and on independent participation by the kids. Please check the schedule for current program details.

Tours

We are happy to do storytimes and tours for preschools, elementary and highschool classes, or groups such as Brownies, Cubs, etc. as our schedule permits. Please call 770-7783 to arrange a visit (September, November, January, and June are the best times to try). Come and see us!
